Minutes of Quarterly Meeting
January 12, 2010

Board members present included Linda Harden, Debbie Powell, Robert Powell and Jody Slocum.  A total of 35 members were present.  A motion was made, seconded and approved to accept the minutes from the 10/13/09 meeting and the current treasurer’s report.

OLD BUSINESS
Questions were raised regarding the buoy placement situation.  Wade Law advised the DNR is in discussions with Crisp Power about the method of securing the buoys.  He indicated there will be progress in the matter soon.
The Christmas parade was a success despite the weather and the last minute location change.  Many complimented the boat and dock decorations, and more efforts will be made to promote another parade this Christmas.
The geese problem was discussed with Wade advising the limit was 5 geese/person/day, and the season was still open.

REPORTS
Al Shauf made a presentation on The Friends of Georgia State Parks, and the local chapter The Friends of the Georgia Veterans Park.  With budget cuts looming, much more local support is needed.  The state will be looking at local involvement as a measure of interest and concern.  GA Veterans is the 2nd most visited park in the state, but only has 286 “Friends” members, while Brasstown Bald, the most visited park, has 1,000 “Friends” members.  All LBHOA members are encouraged to join.  Please contact Al for memberships and information.

NEW BUSINESS – No new business

PROGRAM

Tommy Bailey made an extremely interesting and insightful presentation of the artifacts found in the Flint River.  He has made numerous dives into the river searching for fossils and other archeological items.  He brought part of his collection to display.  Some of the items were carbon dated to 37+ million years old.  We really appreciate his time and sharing his considerable knowledge with us.

The next meeting will be April 13, 2010.
